THE SPIRIT OF SLAVERY
Slavery is a common African experience. Although the modern African knows almost nothing about slavery, oral tradition and modern history informed him of the gruesome slavery. Slavery was an unpleasant experience. Chain gives us a clear mental picture of what it means to be under bondage. According to history, African slaves were bought by the whites and taken to work in American plantations. To be a slave therefore
was to be a worthless thing to be used.
Let us examine some relevant Scriptures.
Shake thyself from the dust; arise, and sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion. For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money (Isa. 52:2-3).
This passage identifies the problem of slavery. It also offers the solution.
What is a slave? A slave is the property of the owner who works without expecting payment. Someone has described slaves as the dustbin or the excrement of mankind. A slave is anyone who is under the power of a master to whom he belongs. The master reserves the right to keep or sell him. A slave has no right. Anything can happen to him: death, accident, hard labour, etc.
A slave has no choice. He can own or acquire nothing. Whatever he owns, belongs to his master. Therefore a slave is really not a human being. He is just a property owned by his lord or master. Slavery, therefore, is a practice in which people own other fellow human beings and use them abusively.
When you look at the genealogy of the black race, every family has one curse or the other to break as a result of the sins of its forefathers. The spirit of slavery has made use of the sins of our forefathers to entrench itself in so many lives.
The Bible says:
If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD; Then the LORD will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance. Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee. Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed. And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God. And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it. And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind: And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life: In the morning thou shalt say,
Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you (Deut 28:58-68).
This long passage reveals the terrible nature of slavery. It also highlights the characteristics of slavery. The horror of slavery is graphically made plain.
Exodus 21 verse 2-7 says:
If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall go out by himself. And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever. And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
This passage goes on to tell us that slaves and their entire families were the properties of their owners. Once the mark of slavery was established on the body of the slave, he became a slave forever.
Exodus 21:28-32 tells us:
If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit. But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man
or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death. If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him. Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him. If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
This passage shows us that when an ox killed a human being who was free, the penalty was death. It was a serious crime. But if an ox killed a slave the penalty was a paltry 30 shekels of silver. The life of a slave was worthless.
Generally, these passages show us that slaves were the most pitiable human beings who ever lived on earth. Slaves were denied personal choice in their marriages. Also the wife and the children of a slave were part of his master’s property.
A slave couldn’t do what he liked. Even if he did what was commendable he got no praise for it. If he made a mistake he would be dealt with brutally. If he died in the process of receiving brutal punishment nobody would ever ask his master any question.
A slave is always wrong, the master is always right. He labours from dawn to dusk without any reward under a harsh task master.
Slavery is terrible. It is better imagined than experienced.
If slavery is so terrible, it is important for us to examine the various forms of slavery. This would lead us to the reasons why men and women are enslaved.
REASONS FOR SLAVERY
Generally speaking, people go into slavery for a number of reasons.
- Some people experience slavery or bondage today because their forefathers were slave dealers. They sold men into slavery or they
were directly or indirectly involved with slave trade several decades ago. In the physical realm we all know that slavery is the most wicked act perpetrated by man. How can someone sell or boy a fellow human being, bind such a person with chains and put him on a ship travelling to America and other parts of the then civilized world? The inhuman treatment meted to slaves leaves much to be desired. Many slaves lost their lives while on the journey.
Although that was done several years ago, the effect and the spiritual implications linger on till today. Such acts are clearly ungodly. It is crystal clear that there is a curse on such inhuman practices. All slave dealers are under a curse. African chiefs and their white counterparts who came as slave barons were under a curse. The middle-men in the various communities were also under a curse. Thus, the offspring of all slave dealers are by extension under curses and bondage.
- All those who were financed or sponsored for education, etc. with wages drawn from the slave trade are under bondage. Whatever was financed or done with proceeds from slave trade cannot lead to blessing or prosperity. Money received from selling human beings is nothing but blood money. Those involved in such wicked trade and their offspring are under bondage.
- Some people are suffering today because their forefathers bought slaves and used them as animals. Those people have had the spirit of slavery transferred into their lives through the actions of their forefathers.
- There are those who come from royal families where the practice of slavery thrives till today. Visit some palaces today and you will still find slaves. Those who come from such families are under bondage because the curse on those who buy and use human beings as slaves is upon their offspring.
- There are people who are under double bondage today because they are descendants of returnee slaves. These slaves travelled to the New World taking with them their evil African covenants. When they got to the country of the whiteman they added the whiteman’s
evil covenant. So, some of them came back with double bondage. This multiple bondage was eventually transferred to their children. Therefore, the offspring of some of those sold into slavery automatically inherited bondage.
- Another form of slavery is experienced by those who have no physical link with slave trade but are enslaved by superior powers. That is the highest form of slavery. Spiritual slavery is a terrible experience. Those who are under bondage are not free to live their own lives. That is why those who are under slavery generally find it difficult to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. When such people pray to receive the Holy Ghost baptism the powers in control of their lives would revolt, saying that they have a legal claim to their lives. Such claim makes it impossible for them to be baptised with the Holy Ghost.
- This group consists of those who have invited chains into their lives through ignorance of dangerous practices. Ignorance is inexcusable. You may be ignorant of the toxic power that resides in concentrated hydrochloric add, but if you use it as water for your tea, you will pay with your life. Add kills no matter how ignorant is the person who drinks it in the same vein, to go into activities that lead to bondage is to expect slavery.
- There are those whose parents and forefathers made human sacrifices and ate human flesh. Anyone from their family is under bondage to the spirit of slavery. Even if such people get born again they are till under slavery unless they specifically undergo deliverance from the curse which attend human sacrifices and cannibalism.
- Another group consists of those possessed by the spirit of slavery because of their addiction to bad habits, those who are slaves to compulsive habits. Evil powers control their lives. Therefore, those people who are addicted to alcohol, hard drugs, tobacco, food, coffee, cigarette, cocaine, greed, nervousness, resentment, restlessness and self-pity are under bondage or slavery. It is impossible for them to break loose from these habits on their own.
They make resolutions but break them as soon as the resolutions are made. They spend their entire earnings on their addictions.
Freedom is possible only through the power of the Holy Spirit. Let me make this very clear: It takes the nine factors enumerated above to make the spirit of slavery operational. Many people are under bondage as a result of the spirit of slavery because of these factors. Unknown to such people, these nine factors serve as platform for the operation of the spirit of slavery.
The African continent has become the best breeding ground for physical and spiritual slavery. That is why the bondage of the African is greater, deeper and more complex than those of people from the western world. Africa is simply the headquarters of spiritual and physical slavery. It is therefore a continent where bondage and slavery are rife. No wonder, Africa has been called the dark continent. Evil spirits have found in the African continent the most fertile ground for their evil operations.
Our generation has become the generation of slavery. This unpleasant experience has become the lot of Africans through the actions of our forefathers. They got into so many wicked things without thinking of the implications of their actions. Without doubt, our fathers had eaten sour grapes and our teeth are now aching. Our forefathers sold us into slavery. Today, we are paying the price.
THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SLAVERY
What are the characteristics of slavery in people’s lives? What are the factors we must look for to identify slavery in people’s lives? How can you know if the spirit of slavery is operating in your life? Is there anything in your life which shows that you are under slavery but you are ignorant of the fact?
Let us examine the factors which reveal that someone is a slave.
• SERVANTHOOD
Are you a servant? Do you spend your life serving other people without thinking of your personal welfare? Are you a slave? Do you serve a particular master without conspicuous progress? It is not wrong to serve other people provided you are also making progress yourself. You must serve others and prosper, if not, you are just a slave. It is not wrong to work under another person but you must make sure that you are working in a place where you are constantly making progress.
If the spirit of slavery has dominated your life you will keep on serving other people without any appreciable betterment in your own life. Slaves or servants have experiences of fruitless service. They suffer frustration, poverty, instability and lack of progress. They work in a particular place for ten years and gather nothing. They run to another place and also gather nothing. By the time they get to retirement age there is really nothing to show for all their years of hard labour and servitude.
You may remain under the chain of servanthood unless you refuse to remain in the camp of drawers of water and hewers of wood. You must refuse to be a servant. You must not remain in the group of those who serve others when their lives remain hopelessly miserable.
Why must you be a slave? Why must you remain lean when those you are serving are fat, prosperous and flourishing? Why must you be a servant forever? It is unfortunate that there are whole families who never achieved anything on their own but have always served achievers. Again, there are those who have served great men but remain poor, frustrated and retrogressive in every area of their lives.
Perhaps you have served somebody for 20 years. If you have nothing to show for it then something is wrong somewhere. You must break the spirit of slavery. If you fall to do this then you may remain a slave forever. You must call yourself to order today and deal with the spirit of servanthood. Enough is enough! You have served other people for too long. You must call the fire of the Holy Spirit against the spirit of servanthood. Then your journey in life will become purposeful.
I challenge you at this point to close your eyes and take this important prayer point if you really want to be free from slavery.
Any spirit of bondage in my life, I dismantle you today, in the name of Jesus.
• BEING A DROP-OUT
Those who drop out from school are, undoubtedly, under the spirit of slavery. Some people drop out from primary or secondary school or the university, for no just reason. They stop schooling because they just felt like doing something else. Those who are school or college drop-outs are under one form of bondage or the other. Their actions go beyond the physical realm. To allow yourself to be a drop-out is to mortgage your future. Someone who dropped out from a primary school may be an aggressive member of the prayer warrior team but he will remain limited in life. He can never rise up to become an important personality in the society.
Whatever makes you to drop out from school or from an important course will also hinder you from attaining an important position in life. You must therefore fight against any spirit that tries to make you drop out from school.
• LOW INTELLIGENCE
The spirit of slavery thrives in the lives of those whose intelligence is unusually low. People of low intelligence miss their best opportunities in life. They end up as slaves because they cannot catch up with the reasoning ability of those who are around them. Give a man of low intelligence the best opportunity in life and he will never be able to make use of it. Low intelligence is like a chain. It binds people to one spot.
• FOOLISHNESS AND DRUNKENNESS
Drunkenness and foolishness are twin sisters. Drunkenness leads to foolishness. But how can ordinary liquid lead a man into foolishness. All drunkards are possessed by the spirit of slavery.
This reminds me of the story of a drunkard who died some years ago. The burial ceremony took place outside Lagos. The officiating minister shocked those who were at the burial. He stood up and told sympathizers, relatives and neighbours who attended the ceremony: “I welcome you all to this burial ceremony. Today, I am going to tell you the truth. May I announce to you that the man we have all come together to bury has gone straight to hell fire. When he was alive I preached to him several times but he refused to repent. To tell you the truth, I picked him up from the gutter times without number but he always went back to the bottle. In one word, he died a drunkard. I don’t want us to waste our time. The man did not live a life that glorified God. I cannot deceive anybody. He lived a godless life and he has gone to a godless grave. Thank you. Goodbye.”
Everyone was shocked. But they also knew that the preacher spoke the truth. However, some of them were wondering why he did not, at least, respect the dead. Whatever they said did not matter. He had told them the truth about the drunkard’s life. The man lived as a slave and died in slavery.
A lot of people are living in slavery today. The alcoholic bottle has become a chain which keeps them tied to slavery. There are men and women who come to the church and pretend to be godly while they sip alcohol in the privacy of their bedrooms. Such people can deceive their pastors but they cannot deceive God. Slavery is slavery, whether it is in the open or in secret. Everyone who allows drunkenness and foolishness to find a place in his life is under bondage to the spirit of slavery.
• VAGABOND LIFESTYLE AND AIMLESSNESS
That is another form of slavery. This kind of spirit keeps victims at the tail position. They make a man to go about aimlessly. Vagrancy, aimless drifting and going back and forth without any definite purpose in life shows that the victims are slaves who are under bondage.
Drifters are generally aimless in life. Today, they are into export and import business, tomorrow they try local trading. Another day you find
them doing a professional work. You also find them planning to travel abroad the next moment. They have no definite purpose. Their lives can be likened to the life of the proverbial Jack of all trades and master of none. They are aimless. Vagabonds who go up and down will achieve nothing at the end of their lives. Again, this is not ordinary. There is a spirit behind such compulsive, aimless actions.
• PROSTITUTION OR HARLOTRY
This is another weapon used by the devil to lead people into slavery. A lot of ladies today have become slaves through prostitution. Many people look decent and intelligent but they are nothing but glorified prostitutes. Some live as prostitutes under the excuse of looking for someone to marry. There are ladies who tell us that they decided to go into prostitution as their only option to finding a husband. Some say they go into immorality as a way of tying down their prospective husbands. They can give any excuses, but they are prostitutes whether they like it or not.
Many people have got into problems today as a result of unwanted pregnancy. There are ladies who got pregnant while attending college or learning a trade. Such people have started their lives on the wrong note. They got into bondage early in life. They jump from frying pan into fire. The spirit of slavery employs prostitution as a weapon of destroying people’s lives.
Today, many lives have been destroyed on the African continent because of multiple bondage. For example, a lady who is pursued by household enemies and decides to go into secret prostitution, adds another bondage to herself. By the time evil powers are finished with her, her life would have been severely destroyed.
Evil spirits are indeed wicked. If they know that it is difficult to trap a manor a woman, they will lead him or her into involvement with harlotry or prostitution as a means of destroying his or her life.
- PRODUCING FALSE PROPHETS AND PROPHETESSES
People have run into slavery and bondage as a result of belonging to families which have produced false prophets or prophetesses. Take a look at your family today. How many prophets or false prophetesses have they produced? Those who go into false prophetic practices are under bondage. There are many syncretic and fringe churches in Africa. These churches are filled with possessed men and women who claim to have the powers of prophecy. They use such powers to destroy many people’s lives. Their victims are drawn from the poor and the rich. University professors are among the victims of such evil manipulators in the name of prophets.
An incident took place some time ago which revealed the deceit behind false prophecy. A lady was so hungry that she collapsed during a church service. It happened to be a white garment church. The lady began to roll on the ground, moaning and asking for food. A so-called prophetess at the service started giving some fake prophecies instead of fetching some food for a hungry person. She prophesy saying, “Woman, you are rolling on the ground because 20 witches have decided to kill you. You must buy some candles, oranges, banana and bring some cash if you want us to avert death. Thus said the Lord.”
The poor woman wondered what the prophetess was saying. What she needed was food. Her hunger had nothing to do with witches. That is an example of the deceit behind many so-called prophecies.
• MEMBERSHIP OF CULTS AND FALSE RELIGIONS
Anyone who is a member of cults and false religions is a slave. If you have examined your family lineage and discovered that some members belong to lodges or other secret societies, then know that the spirit of slavery is actively working in your family.
• PRODUCING NATIVE DOCTORS AND HERBALISTS
If your family has ever produced herbalists, voodoo priests, or fetish priests, the spirit of slavery is controlling that family. When evil powers want to do some havoc in a family, they will approach fetish priests who will supply necessary information concerning members of
the family. With that kind of information, evil powers would easily gain access into the family.
• PRODUCING OCCULT MEMBERS
Any family that has produced members of the occult are automatically under slavery.
- REMAINING BACKWARD OR STAYING PERPETUALLY AT THE TAIL REGION
There are people who always remain at the back no matter the efforts they make. Some children always come last in the class no matter the number of students or pupils in that class. That is the spirit of slavery at work. There is an evil spirit, lurking somewhere which does not want the person to make progress in life. Recently, a primary school pupil was brought into my office by his parents. The parent’s complaint was that he was a dunce. I looked at the boy and I was surprised. He looked bright and intelligent, I greeted the boy and gave him a simple test.
I told him to add 100 + 100 and give me the answer. He smiled and simply said, “Sir, it is very simple.” He began to count his fingers – one, two, three, four, five. Then he lifted up the other hand and counted up to 10. He removed his right leg and counted up to 15 on the right toes. The left toes gave him 20. He turned to the fingers again and continued counting. He kept counting his fingers and his toes until he became confused. I wondered how the poor boy was going to add 100 and 100 by counting his fingers and toes. That boy was an example of what it means to remain at the tail region.
• BAD FEET
A lot of people have evil feet. Everywhere they walk into becomes a problem spot. If they walk into a business location things would begin to nosedive. Evil feet are fore-runners of problems. Things would generally go on smoothly until someone with bad feet walks into the situation. Then, problems would start. That is the spirit of slavery. There are people, who have experienced strange manifestations
whenever they get involved in aggressive prayer sessions. Such people have seen things like cockroaches or insects jumped out of their legs during deliverance. So, if your leg is under a spell you will remain in slavery.
- BEING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DEMONIC PERSONS
A lot of families have one or two highly demonic persons who hold other members spell-bound. Such wicked people are so powerful that whatever they say is final. Everybody fears them.
• STAGNANCY
To remain stagnant in life in spite of excellent academic qualifications is caused by the spirit of slavery.
• NEGATIVE ANOINTING FOR POVERTY
There are people who are anointed negatively for poverty and non-achievement.
• SLAVE DREAMS
If you have read my book entitled Victory Over satanic Dreams, you would have known about evil influence and the power of satanic dreams. A lot of people are blind as far as understanding of dreams is concerned. Let me give you more information concerning slave dreams. This will help you to fight against every form of enslavement through evil dreams. What are satanic dreams?
SATANIC SYMBOLS USED IN SLAVE
DREAMS
The following are common satanic symbols used in the realm of the dreams to enslave men and women.
• LIZARDS
Lizards are symbolic. If you dream about lizards, you should not dismiss it with a wave of the hand. One of the characteristics of the lizard is fear. Those who dream about lizards are generally afflicted by the spirit of fear. Any occurrence of such dream shows that there is something in your life which has to be dealt with.
Many years ago, when we started the MFM, a particular Igbo brother was coming regularly to the services. He was so fervent in the Lord and prayed with the totality of his energy. He kept on praying until God dealt with the spirit of poverty which had kept him under bondage. He woke up one morning and heard the voice of God saying, “Your poverty is coming to an end today.” The Holy Spirit told him to lift up his pillow. He did and found a dead lizard. The Holy Spirit told him that the lizard came from his head. It was then he discovered the secret behind his poverty.
Within two weeks his life changed dramatically. He brought an elegant Mercedes Benz to the church. He became the first member to drive a Mercedes Benz in the church. That is a perfect example of how people’s lot in life can change dramatically, provided they are ready to take the appropriate steps.
• BATS
Bats are generally known for blindness, indecision and duplicity. Dreams of bats are symbols of blindness. Such dreams show that you are neither here nor there. You must deal with that kind of dream and ask God to give you a clear focus.
• SERPENTS
This is another form of slave dream. Seeing snakes in your dream means that you are under bondage. If you dream regularly about serpents or snakes you must pray seriously, otherwise peace may elude you in life. The serpent is also a symbol of deception and lying. The serpent has remained a crooked animal right from the opening pages of the book of Genesis to the last page of the book of Revelation. If you are involved with a business and you begin to see
serpents in your dreams it is an evidence of the fact that danger is near. Tricksters may be out to dupe you.
• VULTURES
Vultures are generally associated with dead animals. Those who see vultures in their dreams should realise that good things in their lives are dead. You must pray to bring back such things into your life.
• FROGS
Frogs are known for their nauseating music, their jumping movement and their multiplication. Those who see frogs in their dreams are generally involved with sexual sins and inconsistency.
• SPIDERS
Dreams of spiders show that the enemy is trying to build a cage around your life.
• SCORPIONS
Scorpions are wicked creatures. They can inflict terrible pain on their victims. They are also deadly. Seeing them in your dreams shows that evil powers are trying to harm you.
• BEES
Bees are known for their anger, bitterness and revenge. They can be very dangerous. Dreaming of them shows that some terrible elements are running after your life.
• TORTOISES AND SNAILS
These are very slow animals. If you see a tortoise or a snail in your dreams it implies that somebody is trying to introduce sluggishness and hindrances into your life.
DISOBEDIENCE – THE ROOT CAUSE OF SLAVERY
Slavery, generally speaking, comes as a result of disobedience to God. That is the highest form of slavery. Those who disobey God are slaves. One of the most wicked activities of slavery is destroying the family. Evil powers are very wicked. They know how to attack a family. They simply go for the head of the home, the man, make him a slave and remove him from his family. The result is that the entire family is captured. They would capture the wife and take her to another place. They would also turn the children to vagabonds.
History reveals that more than 500 million Africans were taken away as slaves. That wicked action was taken by our forefathers. They captured innocent people, tortured them and took them away as slaves. Those who did such wicked things placed curses upon themselves. The African slave dealers and the whites who bought the slaves from them were all under curses.
Slavery is the most inhuman act to which anyone can be subjected. Slaves were stripped naked and chained. Their necks were joined together with stocks they all dragged along. If one of them wanted to ease himself (or herself), the group would not stop or wait. He was expected to ease himself as he was being dragged along. The sick ones were thrown into the sea. Their mouths were padlocked while they worked in the plantations.
Slaves were sold in exchange for alcohol, mirror, necklace and other insignificant materials. Look at Nigeria and other nations today, you will discover that cities and towns which were notorious for slavery are the most economically backward. Members of such communities are living in poverty. Slave ports are out of use. Slave markets centres are dry and desolate. Families that made money during slave trade have suffered problems which money cannot solve.
You must close your eyes at this point and pray:
Any evil, trying to pursue me, turn back by the blood of Jesus.
The movement of African slaves to other countries began as early as the 15th century. This shows that those whose problems are rooted in slavery might have gone through such suffering for some 400 years.
African slaves were sold as objects of no value by their kinsmen. The whiteman who bought human beings as slaves was equally guilty. Hence the slave trade has become the most brutal and the most inhuman aspect of the whiteman’s history.
What was the goal of the slave trade? Financial gain. The whites bought slaves as cheap labour from Africa and sold them to slave users in America and other parts of the world. Primary buyers make money from secondary buyers. The plantation owners turned the slaves to beasts who worked tirelessly in the farms.
The journey from Africa to the Western world was a very long one. Consequently, many Africans lost their lives during the journey. Sometimes half of the slaves in a ship died and were thrown into the sea. Not only the dead, those who were dying were also thrown into the sea. You can be sure that such dying men and women issued terrible curses upon those who sold them into slavery and their posterity. Such terrible curses are now working against many families. What else would you expect from a man who was taken from his wife and children only to be thrown into the Atlantic ocean as a dying man?
Africans who were involved in slavery made money out of fellow Africans without thinking about the consequences of their actions. Slaves were given little or nothing to eat They were taken from tropical countries into very cold regions whose temperature fell below the temperature of our normal refrigerator.
What kind of curse would you expect from such a displaced person? How would such a person feel? Such people had to work in the plantations whether they liked it or not. If they were slow they were flogged like animals. The ordour of the places they were assembled was terrible. All kinds of insects and files made there their places of abode.
Some years ago, I stumbled on an advertisement on slaves of those days:
Slaves on sale
Rossy. 13 years of age. A good house boy, fine temper, fully guaranteed, speaks German and English.
Esther. 40 years, a clean cook, washer and ironer
Patrick. 28 years, a good barber, boarding and house servant, fully guaranteed against vices and maladies.
Payment: cash
That was how human beings were advertised for sale.
